Focus Areas and Cooperation Potentials of Uzbekistan

With around 37 million inhabitants, Uzbekistan is the most populous country in Central Asia and the second most important trading partner for Germany in the region behind Kazakhstan. There are attractive business opportunities for German companies offering products, technologies and services in the areas of electricity (renewable energy and energy efficiency), water management, textiles, healthcare, agriculture (smart farming), raw materials extraction, construction and the food industry. In addition, there is great potential for cooperation with Germany in the area of skilled labour recruitment. Germany mainly exports machinery and equipment to Uzbekistan, as well as vehicles and vehicle components and chemicals. The most important imports from Uzbekistan are food, textiles and metals. Uzbekistan is one of the world’s largest cotton exporters and is currently working towards a more integrated value chain in the textiles industry. This will present German companies with good business opportunities.

Business in Uzbekistan – Opportunities for German Companies

Uzbekistan has a diversified economy with a strong agricultural sector, an expanding industrial sector and a growing service sector. The industrial sector is characterised by textile production, food processing, mining and energy production. With the expansion of renewable energies, the country is not only contributing to  a secure and reliable power supply. The trend reversal in power generation also opens up supply, co-operation and investment opportunities for German companies.

The ongoing expansion of the manufacturing and construction sectors is revitalising Uzbekistan’s economy, offering potential for business contacts between German and Uzbek companies at the same time. The logistics sector also provides international companies with a wide range of business opportunities.

Uzbekistan’s most important exports include gold, textiles, food, and metals. The main imports are machinery and equipment, chemicals, food and vehicles.
