Information about the partnership

Azerbaijan is an important economic partner in the Southern Caucasus region. It is a significant economic player in the region, primarily through the export of oil and gas. While the export of energy resources characterises Azerbaijan’s economy, diversification into other sectors is becoming increasingly important. This offers a wide range of opportunities for German companies in Azerbaijan. Partnering in Business with Germany actively supports business partnerships between SMEs from Germany and Azerbaijan – through networking and B2B of suitable competent executives in search of business partners for long-term co-operations.

Focus Areas and Cooperation Potentials of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has rich oil and gas resources and is the largest economy in South Caucasus. Its economic policy focus is on speeding up economic development beyond the oil and gas sector. The country is pushing for greater use of renewable energy sources in electricity generation.

Azerbaijan is currently investing in agro-industrial parks for agricultural and food production. It is establishing a value chain for the extraction and processing of iron ore. The services, information and communication, and tourism sectors are growing. There is great potential for cooperation between companies from Germany and Azerbaijan in the areas of water, waste water, and waste management.

Business in Azerbaijan – Opportunities for German Companies

As a major supplier of energy resources, the Azerbaijan exerts a strong influence on the economy. At the same time, imports of goods such as machinery, electrical goods, vehicles and vehicle parts are taking place to promote economic development.

Azerbaijan is developing rapidly in the field of renewable energy. By 2030, the share of renewable electricity is set to rise to 35 per cent, compared to 20 per cent today, which opens up new business opportunities for German companies in the energy sector. The country is capitalising on its great potential in renewable energies and is planning to produce green hydrogen in the long term. There are also plans to export green electricity to the EU by submarine cable. Azerbaijan is gaining importance as a strategic hub in the Middle Corridor. Azerbaijan’s economy offers attractive investment opportunities in trade between Europe and Asia as well as in logistics, providing a promising opportunity for German companies wishing to enter the Azerbaijani energy market.
