Partnering in Business with Germany continuing to grow – Türkiye new partner country

At the end of September 2024, Vice-Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck and Minister of Economy and Trade of Türkiye Ömer Bolat signed a joint declaration on the participation of Türkiye in the Partnering in Business with Germany programme in Berlin (New partner country: deepened trade relations with Türkiye – Partnering in business). The next step was taken in Ankara on 14 and 15 November 2024: initial talks at working level on details of the implementation of the programme were held with the Turkish partners.

The talks with representatives of the Turkish Trade Ministry and of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), which is in charge of implementing the programme, aimed to discuss details of responsibilities, target groups, the successful publication and marketing of the programme in Türkiye, and the implementation of a pilot group in May 2025. The Turkish side reaffirmed its strong interest in participating in the programme – as an active partner country, Türkiye hopes to foster the internationalisation of its small and medium-sized enterprises and to further expand the business cooperation with German companies.

Türkiye and Germany have long enjoyed intensive trade relations: Germany is not only Türkiye’s largest export partner, but also among the most important countries in terms of direct investment and tourism. At €55 billion (in 2023), Türkiye is Germany’s fifth-largest trading partner outside the EU.

Mr Ulrich Niemann, Head of the Division responsible for the Partnering in Business with Germany foreign trade and investment promotion programme at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), underlined that both sides will benefit from Türkiye’s participation. He said: “We very much welcome Türkiye’s participation in the programme because both countries aim to further expand their well-developed business relations and to tap the full potential for cooperation especially between small and medium-sized enterprises.”

We welcome Türkiye as new partner country of the programme!
