Mexico: record number of participants in the programme’s more than ten-year history

A networking event in Mexico City on 25 and 26 September 2025 showed the success of the Partnering in Business with Germany (PG) programme to promote foreign trade and investment: in 2024, around 100 Mexican business executives participated in the programme and established about 300 business contacts with German companies – impressive proof of the great potential for bilateral business initiation.

The focus of the event was on forward-looking topics, including cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) – key preconditions for the digital transformation and integration into global value chains. The PG alumni intensively discussed issues related to information security. Raising awareness and taking targeted measures in this field strengthens not only the
resilience of operational processes, but also the ability to establish business contacts in international markets – especially with German SMEs.

Further relevant aspects were discussed in depth in the context of workshops on specific topics; these include the practical application of AI in corporate processes, the implementation of dual vocational training to secure skilled labour, and the potential of networks for female entrepreneurs. The regular updating of skills not only fosters the individual development, but also contributes to the long-term success of business initiation between Mexican and German enterprises.

The event was realised in close cooperation with the Mexican-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CAMEXA), which made available its expertise in several expert panels and supports the programme by providing advice and promoting it. This cooperation helps to strengthen connections of programme alumni with German companies in Mexico and facilitates their access to relevant networks.

Access to the German-Mexican network of women “Red de Mujeres”, which is being
supported by CAMEXA, also contributes to the targeted networking of female entrepreneurs. CAMEXA is a crucial and esteemed partner when it comes to tapping the bilateral market potential. Dr Carolin Antoni, managing director responsible for Trade & Invest and Sustainable Development at CAMEXA, informed the participants about current trends, opportunities and challenges regarding German-Mexican trade.

The figures show how effective the PG programme is: six months after their return from
Germany, 37% of the alumni who participated in the programme in 2024 said that they signed contracts or declarations of intent. It is remarkable that more than half of the resulting or planned agreements are related to sales cooperation, joint ventures or licence relations – i.e. types of cooperation that suggest long-term partnerships. In 2023, there was already a similar trend.

At the evening reception and ceremony in the German embassy, the German Ambassador, Dr Clemens von Goetze, highlighted the significance of the programme: “The Partnering in Business with Germany programme helps Mexican and German small and medium-sized enterprises to establish social and personal contacts. In the context of this programme, we want to further expand our relations, create even more trust and open up new opportunities.”

It was agreed to continue the successful cooperation with the Mexican Ministry of Economy in 2026: business executives from 60 or more enterprises in the fields of digitisation and automation, the automotive/aerospace industries and medical technology are expected to travel to Germany with the aim of targeted matchmaking with German SMEs.
