Internationalisation from a single source: services for German SMEs

The Future Day for SMEs, organised by the BVMW (German Confederation of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises), the largest network of SMEs in Germany, serves as a unique forum for exchange between business and policymakers. More than 6,000 exhibitors took part in the event, focusing in particular on services and innovative solutions for German SMEs. Partnering in Business with Germany was showcased at a joint stand together with other foreign trade and investment promotion instruments of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Programmes such as the Energy Export Initiative, the Healthcare Export Initiative, the Market Entry Programme (MEP) and the Africa Business Network highlighted the comprehensive support provided by the ministry to German companies. These programmes are interlinked along the entire internationalisation chain – from initial information, market access and partnership development through to investment and risk mitigation – opening up a structured and practical pathway into international markets. Partnering in Business with Germany complements this offering by connecting German SMEs with suitable partners in growth markets.

A visitor’s feedback underlined that this approach meets the concrete needs of companies. Michael Winter, Managing Director of bausion Straßenbau-Produkte GmbH from Landsberg, said he had specifically been looking for international business opportunities at the stand and often finds himself asking where best to begin. At the same time, he made clear that “entering a new market is challenging and can hardly be achieved without reliable local partners” – a challenge that the initiatives presented are specifically designed to address.

Partnering in Business with Germany complements the portfolio, placing a particular emphasis on the establishment of sustainable business partnerships between German SMEs and international companies. In contrast to more market-oriented or finance-related instruments, the focus here is on personal exchange and long-term cooperation – an approach that often leads directly to concrete business agreements.
