Global networking on our doorstep: women entrepreneurs from India visit ROWE Mineralölwerk GmbH

Reaching out into the regions to launch international cooperation with German enterprises: one example is the recent visit of women entrepreneurs from India to ROWE Mineralölwerk GmbH in the context of the Partnering in Business with Germany programme. The aim of the visit was to foster the dialogue between regional companies and international female decision-makers and to open up specific possibilities for cooperation.

ROWE Mineralölwerk GmbH was established in 1995. Since 2024, the company with its headquarters in Worms has been headed by Dr Alexandra Kohlmann (CEO) – together with Stefan Wermter. The special award “Successful women in SMEs” by Rhineland-Palatinate (in 2020) and her ranking among the top 50 women entrepreneurs in Germany in the Handelsblatt (in 2022) underline the fact that Ms Kohlmann is a role model for women in leading positions.

Dr Kohlmann said: “Intercultural exchange and networking with other women entrepreneurs is particularly important for me as a young CEO – especially with a view to family-run enteprises and the question of handing companies over to the next generation.” She attached great importance to the visit by the group from India. Ms Kohlmann said: “It was the first time that we opened our doors for women entrepreneurs in the context of the Partnering in Business with Germany programme. The profiles of the entrepreneurs matched perfectly with our business strategy, as India is an interesting export market for us. The fact that the group consisted of women only made the meeting even more valuable.”

Shweta Chandak, Director of Satish Injecto Plast in Maharashtra (India), was impressed by the zero waste philosophy and the production of environmentally friendly lubricants on a 100% biosynthetic basis. The talks with Dr Kohlmann opened up to her new potential for business development and cooperation. Ms Chandak said: “The cooperation with German companies provides access for us to advanced technologies and international quality standards – especially with regard to sustainability, an aspect which is gaining significance in India. In addition to technology transfer, we are benefitting from the intercultural exchange, which makes us familiar with new approaches for solutions.”

Gateway to new markets

Elvin Yilmaz, head of the department for international affairs at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Rheinhessen, regards the Partnering in Business with Germany programme as an important building block for the entry of German enterprises in foreign markets. She said: “The participants of the programme have been carefully selected. They come from a range of industries and have matching profiles, and this creates a high local relevance. This is exactly what opens up realistic opportunities to gain a foothold on difficult markets.” The CCI helps companies by providing targeted advice and matchmaking and networking opportunities.

The visit by the women entrepreneurs from India to ROWE and to the Rheinhessen CCI shows that local innovation capacities and an international network can create new prospects for sustainable growth. Dr Kohlmann concluded that there was the possibility for specific talks about possible cooperation far beyond technological exchange. She said that such encounters were a win-win situation – and an important step to bring more women into leading positions.
