Exhibiting at the Latin America and MENA Forums organised by the Munich and Upper Bavaria Chamber of Industry and Commerce

In May 2025, Germany’s largest Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) hosted two key regional forums: on 6 May, the Latin America Forum – Bavaria’s premier specialist event on Latin America – welcomed around 300 guests from business, government and academia to discuss geopolitical shifts and economic opportunities across a changing region and look at how Bavaria stands to benefit. Just two weeks later, on 22 May, the spotlight shifted to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Latin American markets: From hydrogen to space technology

Partnership is the key to the future, and as the geopolitical landscape undergoes major transformation, companies are rethinking strategies and turning their gaze to regions that previously played a more peripheral role. The result is that Latin America is once again coming into sharper focus. Discussions at the Latin America forum made one thing clear: Germany can – and should – take a proactive role in reshaping global economic relationships. As former Argentine ambassador Dr Ulrich Sante aptly put it: “Germany is still held in high regard as a partner in Latin America – but they won’t be waiting for us (much longer).”

In the panel Entrepreneurs in Dialogue, four business leaders were united in their view that the key to successful ventures in Latin America lies in trust-based partnerships and long-term collaboration. Cooperation in Latin America is expected to take place on the basis of partnerships between equals – a dynamic that goes far beyond transactional exchanges. At the heart of such partnerships lie personal connections, a continuous presence on the ground, and the cultivation of mutual trust, all of which are essential for long-term success. In this context, the traditional German business mindset can only truly flourish when it is coupled with openness, an understanding of local cultures, and a commitment to building and maintaining relationships – across business, government, and personal spheres alike.

This is precisely where the Partnering in Business with Germany programme comes into play. Built on personal relationships, it fosters encounters between companies on an equal footing. Through close contact with Latin American business partners, German companies gain valuable insights into local customs – and vice versa. The Partnering in Business with Germany programme has been bringing Mexican managers to Germany since 2013 and Chilean managers since 2017. This has given rise to a network of nearly 1,000 Latin American alumni – a rich source of contacts for Bavarian SMEs at the Latin America Forum. The soon-to-be new participating countries Colombia and Brazil offer exciting opportunities – for instance, Bavarian SMEs are already proposing collaborative ventures in Brazil’s medical technology sector.

The Latin American market holds immense business potential for German companies – from renewable energy and hydrogen projects, to critical raw materials, industrial cooperation, aerospace, automotive, and agritech sectors.

Expanding engagement in the MENA region

The MENA region is also undergoing rapid development and offers a wealth of opportunities for Bavarian companies. This made it the ideal platform to present the Partnering in Business with Germany programme. Launched in Egypt in 2011 and Tunisia in 2014, the initiative helps German SMEs connect with new partners more easily, quickly, and with lower risk.

Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) used the second regional forum of the Munich Chamber of Industry and Commerce to highlight the programme and encourage participation among German businesses. Partnering in Business with Germany enables German companies to find and meet promising international partners in Germany – completely free of charge. It thus allows companies to explore foreign markets “from home”.

Two Egyptian delegations have already visited Germany since the start of this year. A Tunisian business group followed in mid-June, with two more Egyptian delegations expected in autumn – from the food processing sector and from the chemicals, plastics, and circular economy industries. German businesses interested in hosting these groups or arranging B2B meetings can already register today!
