Cooperation between Vietnam and Germany extended

There is a long tradition of bilateral relations between Germany and Vietnam. Vietnam has also been an important partner country within the Partnering in Business with Germany programme since 2008. The continuation of this longstanding partnership has been confirmed by Helga Margarete Barth, the German ambassador to Vietnam, and Tran Quoc Phuonggm at the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), who have signed a Joint Declaration on the extension of the partnership programme until at least 2027.

“We are very pleased about the extension of the Partnering in Business with Germany programme. In a year where we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, this is a strong signal for our economic cooperation and the common desire to promote sustainable partnerships”, said Helga Margarete Barth after the signing ceremony in Hanoi on 1 April 2025.

Economic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam have become continuously deeper over last years. The free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union entered into force in 2020 and has led to a further enhancement of bilateral economic relations between Germany and Vietnam. Today, Germany is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in the European Union. In the last decade, Vietnam has reached an average economic growth of over 6%. In particular, sectors such as the electronics, textile, shoe, furniture and packaging industry contribute to the rapid economic growth and are attractive to foreign investors.

Since 2008 Vietnam has been a partner country within the Partnering in Business with Germany programme. Nearly 900 entrepreneurs have since successfully participated in the programme. In 2025 six groups of entrepreneurs focusing on sectors such as food processing/smart farming, green technologies and the health sector are to visit Germany. Our new political partner since April 2025 is the Vietnamese Finance Ministry, which has assumed responsibility for the programme as a result of a comprehensive administrative reform.

The close cooperation between Germany and Vietnam within the Partnering in Business with Germany programme promises positive developments and sustainable economic cooperation in the future. This partnership will not only enhance economic stability, but also promote innovative solutions and technologies in different sectors.
