Continuation of partnership with Chile

The successful cooperation between German and Chilean companies will be further strengthened in the coming years. The continuation of the collaboration in the context of the Partnering in Business with Germany programme until the end of 2026 is an important step to further expand the economic relations between the two countries.

German Ambassador Susanne Fries-Gaier, Chile’s Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism Nicolás Grau and Vice President of the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO) José Miguel Benavente signed a joint declaration of intent on the continuation of the partnership in Santiago de Chile on 17 April 2025. This continuation shows that Chile continues to be a strategically important partner country of the German instrument to promote foreign trade and investment Partnering in Business with Germany. The cooperation between the two countries in the context of the programme began in 2017. It has resulted in numerous successful business initiatives.

By June 2024, more than 270 business executives from Chile had participated successfully in the programme. Recently, two delegations of Chilean entrepreneurs visited Germany, including one group that consisted of female managers only. Another two delegations are scheduled to visit Germany in 2025, one of them with a focus on green technologies – an area in which Germany and Chile have already established promising cooperation.

In view of its wealth of raw materials, in particular copper and lithium, and its modern infrastructure in the field of renewable energy, Chile offers great potential for German companies. Especially the fields of eFuels, green hydrogen and agriculture, including wine grapes and other special crops, provide many opportunities for cooperation.

Despite growing competition from other international markets, in particular from the United States, Japan, South Korea and China, Chile continues to be a country with a stable economic environment and highly promising prospects. Cornelia Sonnenberg, Executive Director of the Chilean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also underlines this in her assessment of Chile’s external trade potential for German business. She said: “Chile continues to offer a lot of opportunities, even if competition on the market has intensified. German companies continue to be well-positioned in particular in specialised niche markets, but they are increasingly facing the challenge of competing successfully with firms that can offer better prices.”

The continuation of the partnership in the context of the Partnering in Business with Germany programme until 2026 is the basis for further expanding and deepening the economic relations between Germany and Chile. Both countries benefit from a stable business environment and a growing number of possibilities for cooperation, especially in the fields of renewable energy, technologies and raw materials.

The programme is an excellent opportunity for German companies to improve their market positions in Chile and take advantage of the great potential for business offered by this South-American country.
