Brazil to become new partner country

A delegation headed up by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy visited Brasilia from 4-5 August 2025 to discuss the starting date of the bilateral trade and investment promotion programme Partnering in Business with Germany.

With energy and dedication, the future Brazilian partners MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services) and APEX Brasil (The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) discussed a target-driven agenda with the German delegation. Both sides’ interests in facilitating cooperation between German and Brazilian companies were discussed and the theme of the first Brazilian business delegation to visit Germany agreed: energy efficiency and sustainable solutions for industry.

In April 2026, Brazil will be the partner country of Hannover Messe. The Brazilian pilot group participating in Partnering in Business with Germany is to use Hannover Messe for guidance, as the fair offers an excellent opportunity for getting to know the initial outcomes of the new cooperation between Germany and Brazil and for laying the foundations for a long-term partnership through the signing of the Joint Declaration of Intent at a high level.

The talks with CNI and Sebrae, two Brazilian business associations, highlight the benefits of the cooperation: both associations will support APEX Brasil in advertising the programme across all regions of the country, not least by contacting the target group (Brazilian companies with potential for foreign trade and investment). After Mexico, Brazil is Germany’s second-most important trading partner in Latin America, with bilateral trade exceeding €22 billion in 2024. Germany is Brazil’s largest trading partner in Europe and its third-largest source of imports. Brazil is the world’s fifth-largest country by area. With its 212 million inhabitants, its abundant natural resources (renewable accounted for 89% of its electricity mix in 2023), its vast agricultural sector, food and beverages industry, manufacturing sector, transport and energy sectors, Brazil offers many new opportunities for cooperation with German companies, particularly SMEs.

The joint initiative of Brazil and Germany in the Partnering in Business with Germany programme aims to strengthen sectors with high potential for fruitful negotiations with German partners. Brazil is well positioned to be a global provider of energy and sustainable solutions for industries, making these areas particularly promising for cooperation between Brazilian and German companies. Our shared future is closely tied to sustainability, encompassing renewable energies, more efficient energy consumption, streamlined sustainable processes, and the positive spillover effects of fostering greener technologies. Germany and Brazil have much to contribute to this regard, and we hope that this partnership will lay the foundation for a meaningful, long-lasting cooperation.

Business Director, APEX Brazil

The Brazilian economy is expected to remain on its growth trajectory in 2025. A sustainable re-industrialisation policy could open up new opportunities for economic relations and support the country in becoming a more prominent part of global value chains. For Germany, this cooperation is an important component of its efforts to diversify its foreign trade and investment. Additional momentum could be created by a signing of the EU-Mercosur FTA in the near future. This makes the timing of the programme’s launch especially fitting.
