A new life for waste oil – how German technology and Indian passion are boosting the circular economy

A cooperation project between Lena Neumann from the German company Avista Oil and Sahil Bhargava from the Indian lubricant supplier IFP Petro is helping to drive forward the circular economy in both countries. Against the backdrop of growing industrialisation, an increasing need for energy, and global supply chains, the circular economy is becoming ever more important as an economic model.

India is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. The demand for sustainable technologies is rising fast, driven by ever stricter environmental rules and a growing focus on resource efficiency. German companies bring state-of-the-art technology to the table and stand to benefit from long-term partnerships with India and the country’s huge market.

Challenges include ensuring compatibility between different technologies and developing a profound understanding of each other’s economic and cultural context. Germany is regarded as a global leader in engineering and recycling. But how can German products and expertise be delivered to India? This is where the Partnering in Business with Germany programme comes in. It establishes contact between companies and fosters a thorough understanding of the partner country’s working methods and cultural practices.

‘If it weren’t for the programme, we would never have met,’ says Sahil Bhargava, head of strategy at IFP Petro. Patience, trust and a clear understanding of the German business processes were key for working with Lena Neuman from Avista Oil.

Watch the video to learn more about how a good idea turned into a successful partnership that has the potential to make Germany’s and India’s future more sustainable.
